ERZULIE

Year: 2023

Medium: Oil on canvas

Dimensions: 32 in x 40 in

This painting is part of a series in which Ed Maximus explores the intersection of form, feeling, and identity within portraiture. Distancing himself from the realism that defined his earlier work as a photographer, Maximus adopts simple shapes and surrealism to emphasize the subject's essence over their physical appearance. As a result, each painting transitions from being a mere depiction to becoming a revelation, offering a unique glimpse into the soul.
