Studio Maximus is an experimental hub and intimate space created by Ed Maximus to share his creative journey with the world.
Currently based in the New York Metropolitan area, Ed Maximus is a multidisciplinary Haitian artist working through a lens of curiosity. Within his practice, he inquires critically—and especially creatively—into concepts of subjective and social concerns: thought and body, abstract and concrete, individual and collective.
With an expansive background in engineering, photography, sculpting, and painting, his work as an artist builds on novel forms of imagination in the space between disciplines. Refusing to rest with habitual divisions, Maximus investigates how these perspectives can come together within his creative practice.
Through his willingness to continuously engage in practices of methodological anarchism and experimentation, Maximus considers the potential power of art to question the real and imagine the possible while merging the technical with the creative. His vision approaches the new, the different, and the unfamiliar, as both a challenge and an opportunity to forge a new path.
Maximus is presently exploring the hybrid space between art and engineering. This particular combination of disciplines encourages a fusion of materials and media to create new forms. Hybridity permeates his concepts as well: generating new possibilities for connection, development, experimentation, and expression. An expanded view of creativity keeps his art practice open to dimensions of the unknown.
